The largely ignored genus of butterflies called Elymnias is one of my very favorites. Their surreally tie-dyed markings are conspicuously out of place among their much more commonly colored cousins in the family of Satyridae. This species tends to vary widely in tone according to locality, and of course, the most beautiful color forms are only found in the most remote locations, so their availability can be sporadic. The white butterflies that accent them are the perennial Cabbage Whites from the Philippines.
