Tailless Whip Scorpion (16×20)
Also known as a Cave Spider, the tropical Tailless Whipscorpion is really neither a spider nor a scorpion, but a completely unique order of Arachnid called Amblypygidae. The claws (known as pedipalps) are extremely efficient tools I n procuring prey while the extremely long front legs are actually modified sensory organs. They are exceedingly fast, nocturnal and possibly even social creatures. Though ferocious hunters, whip scorpions are actually harmless to humans. This doesn’t, incidentally, make them any less hideous.
